Q. Will these photo albums cause my photographs to deteriorate?
A. All of our Bellagio-Italia albums are pvc, acid and lignin free, which makes them archival quality, in other words, your pictures should look the same in 50 years that they do today, assuming they begin acid free, and are not placed with papers that contain acid. Our Memory Lane albums are pvc and acid free, but the paper does contain small amounts of lignin. This means they are safe right now, but there is a possibility for the lignin to become acidic in the future. While these albums have been improved from photo albums of the past, we do encourage our customers to watch for changes in any photos or letters they put in the Memory Lane albums.
Q. I have acidic items I want to include in my photo albums, is that safe?
A. Many mementos such as newspaper articles, handwritten notes, and other paper goods were not created with acid free materials. The best option is to make a copy of the item onto archival safe paper. But if the original is desired there are a couple options, including de-acidification spray to neutralize the acid and/or laminating.

A. Journaling is fancy way of saying storytelling. If you imagine someone sitting next to you as you put photos in the album, just jot down the information you would give them about each photo. This makes the album more fun to look at, and answers questions future generations might ask. It also helps protect the photos, since ink on the back of a photograph can eat away at the photo over time, causing the words to show through to the front of the photo.
